Designing for Bicyclist Safety (DBS 101)

The two-day Designing for Bicyclist Safety course is intended to help state and local transportation professionals address bicyclist safety issues through design and engineering solutions. Modules focus on common safety challenges for bicyclists, data and planning tools to support bicyclist safety improvements, and countermeasure and design strategies to improve bicyclist safety along the road and at intersection locations.

Participants will take part in a field exercise to reinforce course concepts (on bicycles, if available). The class is broken into smaller groups to walk or bike, and study a nearby intersection or corridor for possible safety improvements. The groups brainstorm and share engineering and policy solutions.
